How to Make Money with a Faceless YouTube Channel: 5 Ways

Listen to this article0:00 / --:--

A faceless channel earns money from the same sources as any other channel: YouTube ad revenue, TikTok's rewards program, affiliate links, sponsorships and narration or editing work for clients. You never appear on camera. The videos are built from images and footage, and an AI voice can tell the story.

None of these pays from the first video. YouTube and TikTok only share revenue once the channel reaches a minimum number of followers and views, while affiliate links and client work can bring in money sooner. So it makes sense to combine sources, starting with the ones that don't depend on the platforms.

5 ways to make money with a faceless channel

  • YouTube ads
  • TikTok rewards
  • Affiliate links
  • Sponsorships
  • Client work
Illustration, not to scale. Affiliate links and client work can pay early on, and platform payouts only start once the channel meets each program's requirements.

1. YouTube ads (YouTube Partner Program)

The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) gives creators a share of the revenue from ads shown on their videos. To apply, you need 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. Watch time from Shorts in the Shorts feed doesn't count toward the 4,000 hours.

You also need to live in a country where the program is available, have no active Community Guidelines strikes and link an AdSense for YouTube account. YouTube reviews the whole channel before accepting it, which usually takes about a month. Once you're in, you earn from ads on long videos and Shorts, and from fan features such as channel memberships and Supers.

Long videos build watch hours faster, because each view adds several minutes. Shorts help new viewers find the channel, but if you count on Shorts alone, you need 10 million views.

2. TikTok Creator Rewards Program

TikTok pays for videos that are at least one minute long through the Creator Rewards Program. To join, you need to be 18 or older, have at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, and live in a country where the program is available. Each video starts earning after it reaches 1,000 qualified views from the For You feed.

The program only rewards original content. TikTok doesn't count videos that put together clips or photos from other sources without new ideas, photo slideshows or videos with only text on screen. Writing your own script and narrating it brings the new ideas these rules ask for.

3. Affiliate links

Affiliate programs pay a commission when someone buys through your link. Add links to products that match your niche in the video description, such as books on a history channel or gadgets on a tech channel.

This income doesn't depend on YouTube's or TikTok's programs, so it can start with your first videos. Recommend only products that fit the topic, and tell viewers when a link is an affiliate link.

4. Sponsorships

Brands pay to be mentioned in videos watched by the people they want to reach. That's why a small channel with a clear niche can still land deals.

In a narrated video, the mention goes into the script and is read in the same voice as the rest of the video. On YouTube, turn on the paid promotion option in the video details whenever a video includes sponsored content.

5. Voiceovers and videos for clients

What you learn on the channel can become a service: narration for ads and product videos, or complete narrated videos for businesses and other channels. Your channel's videos show clients what you can do.

Audio made with Narrator's Voice can be used commercially, including in ads and client projects, so you can deliver this work with the same app you use for your own videos.

Step-by-step guide: How to Create a Product Video Voiceover on Your Phone

Take the channel to other languages

One topic can become channels in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Adapt the script to the new language, choose a native voice and keep the same editing structure. Ad revenue varies with the audience's country, so a new language also changes how much each view can pay.

A literal translation tends to sound odd when narrated. Replace examples and expressions with ones the new audience uses.

Mistakes that block monetization

  • Mass-produced videos: YouTube doesn't monetize inauthentic content, such as repetitive videos made from a template just to get views. Vary your topics and structure.
  • Reusing other people's content: clips from movies, TV or other channels without significant changes can get the channel rejected from YPP and bring copyright claims.
  • Music you don't have the rights to: it can get the video muted or its revenue sent to the rights holder.
  • Buying views or followers: TikTok can remove accounts that inflate their numbers from the Creator Rewards Program, and fake followers don't buy anything from sponsors.
  • Going quiet for months: YouTube may turn off monetization on channels that haven't uploaded a video or published a post in 6 months or more.

How Narrator's Voice helps you make money with narrated videos

Narrator's Voice turns your script into narration on your phone. Audio made in the app can be used commercially, including in monetized YouTube and TikTok videos, ads and client projects.

  • 10,000+ voices in more than 70 languages, including ultra-realistic voices from the ElevenLabs integration.
  • Voice cloning from a short audio clip, so you can narrate in your own voice without recording every video.
  • Pauses, sound effects and background music in the narration.
  • MP3 export, or sharing straight to other apps.

The app is free to download and use, with ads, and many voices have unlimited use. Premium removes ads and unlocks exclusive features. Some voices use credits, which come with every Premium subscription renewal.
